Learning biology with Dr. Shi 1.23.2018
Biology is the study of life all around us. It has a form, structure, and a function just like a human being. Dr. Shi talked about the structure and function of cells, and some of their parts. She used the human body as an example of this. We have organs in the body and each one has a specific function, so does a cell.
During her slideshow we saw various slides of humans, leaves, germs and talked about the difference between living and non-living things. All living things have the ability to grow, move, change and reproduce. However, something can change from living to non-living. For example, a tree is living but it can also become non-living.
What causes things to be alive or dead? All living things constantly take things in and purge things out. If they lose this ability, they will die. All living things take in nutrients and they purge out the unnecessary things. This is the same for a cell; it takes in nutrients and it purges out the waste products. If they stop doing this they will die.
