The Beauty of Roots, Stems, Leaves, and fruits - the dishes you make and the people you meet! 2.27.2018
Tonight our children took a virtual journey as they walked through the realm of plants and plant life. They learned all about the intricate processes of life from the beginning stages of the tiniest seeds to the tallest trees. Each part of the plant plays a crucial role in its growth, development and reproduction. There are many ways that plants grow and produce fruit and leaves. The children were amazed to see how many different parts of a plant can be eaten and how we incorporate them into our daily lives through food and drink. We learned how necessary it is for plants to take in proper nutrients from their surroundings in order to produce fruit.
We also got to see how people are similar to plants. We too have to learn to take in the proper nutrients from our surroundings. Everything we encounter is “getting into us”, such as what we see, what we hear, what we do with our time, etc. It is all “food” to us. Also, like some plants, the fruit is hidden beneath the surface. When we encounter others, we need to take the time to look beneath the surface. The real “fruit” may be hidden and just needs to be brought out.
Jordan encouraged the children to get to know their parents, their siblings, their teachers and the students around them. We should get to know the "inside", the hidden part, and not to judge others by what they wear or look like.
